String musicianship (banjo, Baby!), vocals, strong Appalachain and folk heritage from Evie Ladin mashes up with Keith Terry’s Texas-raised percussion turned bass roots in a musical act (powered by life partnership) called Evie Ladin Band.
It’s often said of living in the city (any city really!) that we can’t have nice things. Well, for Oakland, California that’s not the case when it comes to Evie Ladin Band. Evie and Keith are 2/3 of the act that explores the depths of banjo, vocals, bass and strings with songs that tug the heart, make you wanna get up and country dance and more. Along with instrumentalist, Erik Pearson, the trio produce delights and entertainment anyone who can listen and watch will enjoy.
This conversation with Evie and Keith explores what it means for two working artists to have overlap in the genres they touch and not in the ones they don’t. We also cover how Evie Ladin Band came into being.
About Evie Ladin Band
Evie Ladin Band is characterized by tenacious, innovative string musicians. The band consists of Evie Ladin, Keith Terry and Erik Pearson and together they throw down captivating, truly entertaining live shows.
Grounded in Appalachian old-time repertoire, seasoned in African-diaspora roots, and written from life in modern cities, Evie Ladin band blurs the lines between music and dance. The polyrhythmic heat of Evie’s clawhammer banjo, resonant voice, real stories and rhythmic dance have been heard from A Prairie Home Companion to Hardly Strictly Bluegrass.
In March 2024 the Band released their fifth album – Evie Ladin Band LIVE. It’s an audience-fueled romp through original songs across all of the band’s previous releases and was recorded at Freight & Salvage in Berkeley, CA. The detailed interplay of instruments around Evie’s clever lyrics really shine, as live performance is the band’s forte.
